Privacy Policy

Last updated 20 September 2026

Metakai is a fitness tracking app for Android and iPhone. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. In short, your data stays on your phone unless you choose to back it up to your own Google Drive. If you join the optional leaderboards, only a display name, rounded body buckets and your scores are shared.

Data stored on your phone

Your profile (such as sex, birth date, height and activity level), goals, food logs, weight, measurements, body fat, workouts, habits, progress photos, and any steps, sleep and heart rate you bring in from a watch are saved in the app's private storage on your device. Progress photos are not added to your photo gallery. Uninstalling the app or using “Erase all data” deletes this data.

Web version

The web version of Metakai (for iPhone before the App Store release, and for computers) keeps your data in your browser's storage on that device, the same way the app keeps it on your phone. It isn't sent to the developer. Clearing the browser's data for this site, or removing the home screen app, deletes it, so back up to Google Drive or a file first.

On the web, Google sign-in takes you to Google and back. The access Google grants is kept in your browser for up to an hour and is only used for the features below. For the leaderboards, the web version exchanges the Google sign-in for a Metakai leaderboard session once, so it doesn't need to ask again; the session is stored only in your browser.

Google Drive backup (optional)

If you connect Google Drive, Metakai signs you in with Google and asks for one permission: drive.appdata. This lets the app create, read, update and delete its own files in a hidden app folder in your Google Drive. Metakai cannot see or change any other files in your Drive.

The app uses this permission only to save a copy of your Metakai data and progress photos to that folder, and to restore that copy onto your phones. The files go directly between your phone and Google. They are never sent to the developer or to any other server. Metakai also reads your Google account email so it can show which account is connected.

Metakai's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is not used for advertising, is not sold, is not shared with third parties, and is not used to train AI models.

You can disconnect at any time in You → Backup & sync, and choose to delete the Drive copy at the same time. You can also delete it without the app in Google Drive settings → Manage apps → Metakai → Delete hidden app data.

GPS activities (optional)

If you record a run, walk, hike or ride, Metakai uses your phone's location while the recording is active, including when the screen is off (shown by an ongoing notification on Android and the location indicator on iPhone). It asks only for access while the app is in use, never “all the time”. Your route is stored on your phone and, if you turn on Google Drive backup, in your own Drive. It is never sent to the developer or shared with anyone.

Watches and health apps (optional)

If you connect Health Connect (Android) or Apple Health (iPhone), Metakai reads only the types you allow: steps, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, heart rate, sleep, weight, body fat, exercise sessions, distance and active calories burned. Watches and apps such as Samsung Health, Fitbit, Garmin Connect, Withings, Oura, Polar, Zepp and Apple Watch put this data there.

Metakai uses it only to show your activity and sleep, fill in the sleep answer of your readiness check-in, add your watch workouts to your cardio log, and add smart-scale weigh-ins to your weight history. It is stored on your phone and, if you turn on Google Drive backup, in your own Drive. If you turn on “Send to Health Connect” or “Send to Apple Health”, Metakai also writes the weigh-ins, workouts, distances and calories burned that you log in Metakai.

Health data is never sent to the developer, the leaderboard server or the AI services, is not used for advertising or marketing, is not sold, and is not shared with anyone. Metakai's use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can change or remove access at any time in Health Connect or the Health app, or stop syncing in You → Watches.

If you pair a Bluetooth heart rate sensor, such as a chest strap or a watch that broadcasts heart rate, Metakai connects to it directly while you train. Readings stay on your phone, and the average and peak are saved with the workout or recording. Bluetooth scanning is only used to find heart rate sensors, never to work out your location.

Leaderboards (optional)

If you join the leaderboards, Metakai signs you in to confirm you are a real person (with Google on Android and with Apple on iPhone, without asking for your name or email) and sends the following to the Metakai leaderboard server (hosted on Cloudflare):

The server does not receive or store your email, your name from Google or Apple, food logs, weigh-ins, workouts, photos, routes, health data or location. Your Google or Apple account is stored only as a one-way code that cannot be turned back into your account. Other users see your display name, country, ranks and times.

You can leave at any time from the leaderboard profile screen, which deletes your name, scores and friend links from the server immediately and, on iPhone, revokes Metakai's Sign in with Apple access. You can also delete your profile on the web at Delete your data. Profiles with no activity for 12 months are deleted automatically.

AI features (optional)

If you add your own Google Gemini or Groq API key, requests go directly from your phone to Google or Groq using your key:

Those services handle this data under their own terms and privacy policies. Your keys are stored in your phone's secure storage and are never included in backups.
